How to Get the Best Headshots

Learn how to get headshots that capture your type and get casting directors’ attention.

How to Get the Best Headshots

Your headshot is your most important marketing tool as an actor. It is often the first impression casting directors have of you. Think if you were a business, your headshot should be your logo and your business card all wrapped into one. Businesses often spend thousands of dollars and tons of time deciding on a logo and card. You may not have thousand of dollars to spend, but you should make it a very important step in the process considering that most every call your agent or manager will get for you will start with your headshot.

A strong headshot should clearly represent your type and look like you on your best day. Your headshot should not be some major retouched AI version of someone who may look a little like you. It should be you! Just the absolute best version of you! And it should represent the type of character you would play. If you’re 6’5″ with huge muscles and tattoos all over your neck, your not going to be cast as the “boy next door” or the local police officer, and vice versa. You should look like the part you might play.
